Ballerina-Inspired GownsA Little Ballet, After Dark
Blush satin, beautiful bows,
and a soft spot for tulle.
I was a ballerina long before I began sharing what caught my eye here. Those years explain quite a lot about my wardrobe: pale pink, defined waists, ribbons, and an enduring weakness for tulle.
I still notice a dress’s line and movement first. These are the ballerina-inspired gowns and dresses I’m drawn to for evenings now, with beautiful satin shoes to finish the look.

A Personal Note
Once a Ballerina
Ballet has stayed with me in the smallest ways. I love the softness of satin against something structured, and the way a simple ribbon can make a shoe feel special. There is also the skirt test: I always want to know what it will do when I turn.
For evening, I’m drawn to those same details on a grander scale. A long tulle skirt, a sculpted bodice, a generous bow. The choreography may have changed, but my weakness for a beautiful entrance has stayed.
A Closer Look
The details I always notice first: satin bows, pink brocade, and soft tulle.

The Gowns & a Short Encore
Romantic pink evening gowns for the formal invitation, plus one little tulle dress for cocktails. These are the pieces on my rail.
The Romantic Gown
V. Chapman
Veronica Gown
Light Pink Windsor Brocade
The ruffled straps, fitted bodice and generous hem give this pink brocade gown the romantic shape I always notice first. I’d wear it with a simple evening bag and let the bow be the only flourish.
The Satin Bow
The New Arrivals Ilkyaz Ozel
Peggy Satin Bow Gown
Bois de Rose
That oversized satin bow is the whole invitation. The slim silhouette keeps it elegant, while the long ribbon tails bring a little backstage romance. I’d keep my hair smooth and the accessories very quiet.
The Tulle Gown
Costarellos
Gisella Gown
Dusty Pink
The floral bodice and full tulle skirt are my most romantic choice for a formal evening. I love the contrast between the defined shape through the body and all that softness below. A small earring would be enough.
The Short Encore
AKNVAS
Edel Cocktail Dress
Pink
For a shorter invitation, a very spirited little encore. The corseted top and layered tulle skirt have the clearest tutu reference in this edit. I’d choose this for cocktails and let a beautiful pair of shoes have their moment.
The Finishing Step
Ribbon-tied heels for a dressed-up evening, or satin ballerinas when the hem and the occasion allow. I’d choose the shoe before having a long gown hemmed.
The Ribbon-Tied Heel
Christian Louboutin
Cassia 100 Satin Pumps
Blush / Lin Blush
Square toes, satin ribbons and that little glimpse of red: these are the evening shoes I’d put with the bow gown. I love how the ribbon ties carry the ballet reference all the way down to the ankle.
The Ballet Flat
Christian Louboutin
Cassiasticina Satin Ballerinas
Poupee
The crossed straps and small bows make these my most literal nod to the studio. I’d wear them with the short tulle dress, or let them peek from a long skirt with the hem tailored to the shoes.

How I’d Wear It
Let the Dress Lead
With a full tulle skirt, I’d keep the bag small and the jewelry delicate. The texture already gives the look plenty to enjoy.
Give the Bow Room
For the Peggy gown, smooth hair and a simple earring would let that satin bow have its moment. It has quite a lot to say.
Mind the Hem
Try the whole look with your chosen shoes before alterations. I want the skirt to fall beautifully and leave enough room to walk comfortably.
A little ballet has always found its way into the way I dress. If an evening happens to call for pink satin, a ribbon and a skirt with something to say, I’m very happy to oblige.
Xoxo, Charlotte
