I have a soft spot for anything that makes getting dressed feel a little more fun, and jeweled barrettes do exactly that. A few crystals, a touch of gold, and suddenly an ordinary hair day has somewhere glamorous to be. Even if I don’t.

Chanel’s snow-covered Fall/Winter 2019 runway was such a beautiful reminder of how much the little details matter. The clothes were elegant, but the hair accessories helped bring the whole mood together. I love a finishing touch that makes a look feel special without having to rethink the entire outfit.

My own favorite is this Gucci barrette. The tortoiseshell resin, crystals and tiny gold studs make it feel like a little piece of jewelry for your hair. It manages to hold my hair back and satisfy my need for sparkle. Very considerate of it. You can shop it here.

For an easy everyday look, try a clip above the ear with soft waves, a cream knit and jeans. With a dress or a pretty blouse, a smooth side part gives it a more polished feel. I would keep the other accessories simple and let that lovely little sparkle have its moment.

I also love a satin headband with a small bow, or something a little more theatrical when the mood calls for it. A fascinator can make even a simple outfit feel wonderfully dressed up. And a burgundy or wine-colored hat is always lovely for fall, especially on days when my hair and I aren’t quite seeing eye to eye.

There’s something sweet about getting a little dressed up just because it makes you happy. A special occasion is lovely, but an ordinary afternoon deserves a little sparkle, too. And if an invitation does arrive, at least my hair is ready.
