Lights, Camera… Christmas!

Christmas is officially here… the tree is lit in Rockefeller Center, the Rockettes are performing at Radio City Music Hall, the window displays along Fifth Avenue are spectacular, and everywhere you turn you see the magical lights of the Christmas season.

After living in Manhattan for almost two years now, I finally went ice skating at Rockefeller Center…something I’ve been wanting to do since before I had even moved to the city. I dragged two of my good friends with me, Adam and his boyfriend, Chase, both of whom are also dancers, actually, the truth of the matter is, I tricked them into it. You see, they thought the plan was to go Christmas shopping, little did they know that my plot was already in the works. I insisted that we do a little warm up on the ice, and they bought it, hook, line and sinker. I haven’t been in skates for at least seven years, Adam has never skated, and Chase just moved here from San Diego, and is more used to sand and surfing than ice skating. But since we are dancers, we figured it couldn’t be that difficult, after all five years olds ice skate. We couldn’t have been more wrong. I fell every other minute, I was on my ass longer than on my feet. I must admit, it was hilarious. We are total amateurs on the ice. I’m covered in black and blue marks, and my glutes and quads are ridiculously sore (but now, I completely understand why hockey players have such sexy behinds), but the experience was magical and just what I needed to put me in the Christmas spirit.

After skating we made it to happy hour, were we drank some liquid pain reliever (also known as cocktails), and then finally embarked on our shopping excursion. Every window is amazing, each very distinctive and every store trying to out decorate the other. My favorite is the Tiffany’s display and I’m crossing my fingers for a little blue box this year. They have the most exquisite things, so I did a lot of my Christmas shopping right then and there. The holidays brings back the kid in me, I remember just staring at all the wonderful items in the store and just wishing I could have it all. Not much has changed, except for maybe the idea of the perfect gift, instead of teddy bears and Barbie’s Malibu Dream House, I’m wishing for diamonds and designer shoes.
