New York has a way of turning “just lunch” into a whole afternoon. First there’s the outfit. Then there’s the table. And somehow, wearing pink feathers in the middle of the day starts to feel perfectly reasonable.
After all my years in the city, I still love that feeling. No big occasion needed. Sometimes it’s enough to get dressed, meet someone for lunch, and give yourself permission to stay a little longer.
A Table With a View
My ideal afternoon starts with a window table at Bergdorf Goodman, Central Park in view, and plenty of time for a proper catch-up. Lunch, a little tea afterwards, and no one looking at the clock. We can call it a quick lunch if we like, but I think we both know where this is going.
A Little Pink, Just Because
The look I’m imagining? Baby pink, feather cuffs, white heels, and a pale pink Kelly. A little extra, perhaps, but I can’t think of a better city to dress up in simply because you feel like it.
Only Looking, Of Course
After lunch, I’d leave room for a little wander along Fifth Avenue. A few windows to look in, probably something unnecessary to fall in love with, and at least one very unconvincing “I’m only looking.”
That’s the afternoon I’m picturing here: a long lunch, a good catch-up, and some time to enjoy New York. The sort of afternoon I’d happily leave the calendar clear for.
Xoxo, Charlotte
