New York in the colder months always makes me want to dress with a little more intention. A beautiful collar. A short hem with tall boots. Something lovely waiting beneath a coat.
These are the five SAME Los Angeles pieces on my fall-and-winter favorites list: rich leather, a black knit mini, a little merlot shimmer and, naturally, a touch of pink. Here is how I would style them for an afternoon uptown, dinner after dark and a few rather well-dressed detours along the way.

A Little Oxblood
The cropped trench is the piece I would build the first look around. I love its deep oxblood shade against a black knit mini, with tights and tall boots keeping the line simple. The croc-embossed texture does the talking; the rest can be wonderfully quiet. Add a small structured bag, and I’m ready for an afternoon uptown.
A short hem, long sleeves and a beautifully shaped waist: this leather mini has just the balance I want for dinner in the city. I would keep it with black tights and pointed pumps, letting the burgundy stand on its own. For a colder evening, a long coat over the top would make the entrance even better.
The merlot bodysuit is all about the turn. A high neckline at the front, then an open back and a long tie: a lovely little surprise. I would pair it with black trousers that skim the floor and a small evening clutch. The knit is sheer, so I would plan the underlayer around the open back before heading out.
Of course there had to be a little pink. This rose silk blouse is my softer counterpoint to the darker pieces: a fluid shape, generous cuffs and that pretty tie at the back. I would wear it with cream trousers and a little gold, then add a tailored coat when the temperature drops. Winter whites deserve a rose-colored companion.
