A Fifth Avenue
Holiday Afternoon
A lovely little route. A reason to dress. A city afternoon with room for Mini, too.

The idea
Where to go, and what to wear
For a Fifth Avenue holiday afternoon, build your outfit around a warm coat, comfortable walking shoes and one beautiful detail. Start near Bergdorf Goodman, pause at Tiffany’s Landmark, then continue toward FAO Schwarz and Rockefeller Center.
The pleasure is in leaving a little room between the plans: a window that makes you stop, a shop worth wandering through, or a small person who has spotted something much more interesting than your itinerary. Think of this as a route to make your own, with a polished lunch look and an easier walking version.
All four stops sit in Midtown. The time above is a planning allowance, not a timed walking promise; holiday crowds, queues and a meal can make the afternoon considerably longer.

Suggested order: Bergdorf Goodman → Tiffany’s Landmark → FAO Schwarz → Rockefeller Center. - 01
754 Fifth Avenue · at 58th Street
Bergdorf Goodman
Begin with the windows and a little browsing. If lunch is part of your plan, arrange it separately rather than relying on a walk-in table. A shorter visit still gives you a lovely starting point for the afternoon.

727 Fifth Avenue · at 57th Street
Tiffany’s Landmark
Continue to The Landmark. For The Blue Box Café, use the official café information to check current dining arrangements before you build the day around it. Browsing and a café visit are separate plans.

30 Rockefeller Plaza
FAO Schwarz
Let the afternoon belong to Mini for a while. The flagship’s toy displays and in-store experiences make this a natural family stop. Check any individual activity’s current terms and leave room for a queue.

The Christmas tree & plaza
Rockefeller Center
Finish with Rockefeller Center. For 2026, the organizer lists the tree’s arrival on November 7 and the lighting ceremony on December 2. If seeing an illuminated tree is the point of your visit, plan after the lighting and recheck the official visiting details.

The outfit edit
Warm layers. One lovely detail.
For lunch, then a little wandering
A black knit mini gives the outfit a clean base. Add opaque tights, a weather-appropriate coat and a small structured bag. Burgundy or oxblood brings the holiday feeling without requiring sequins.
The cropped trench below is a styling layer for milder conditions. On a cold December day, plan your warmth around a proper winter outer layer and check the forecast before leaving.
For the walking version
Keep the same palette and choose comfortable shoes you have already walked in. Save delicate satin or high heels for the indoor part of the day. If your afternoon includes a booked meal, a spare shoe is often more useful than another accessory.
For Mini, a little pink and gold can echo the mood. Choose the layers, footwear and length of the outing around the weather and your child’s comfort.

A little flexibility
Make the plan fit your afternoon
With Mini
Choose one main event and one optional stop. FAO Schwarz and a brief outdoor look at Rockefeller Center can be a complete outing. Add a meal or more shopping only if everyone still has energy.
If the weather changes
Shorten the outside portion, keep a booked indoor pause and leave an easy route home. Holiday queues can extend outdoors, so an indoor destination still calls for sensible layers.
Before you go
The little questions
What should I wear for a New York holiday walk?
Start with warmth and shoes you trust, then add one detail that feels festive: burgundy, a gold bag, a bow or a soft pink layer. The outfit should work for the walking as well as the photograph.
Do these venues have a dress code?
The looks here are styling suggestions. Check the current information for your specific restaurant reservation or booked experience for any dress requirements.
When is the Rockefeller Center tree lit in 2026?
The official organizer currently lists December 2, 2026 for the lighting ceremony. Recheck Rockefeller Center’s information for visiting hours and access details before traveling.
